Did it fall or was it dropped? If it was summer there would be a rainbow puddle on the sidewalk. Fifty degree weather does not make most of us hanker for a sno-cone. May someone bought it, thinking it was something else, something tasty, then realized it’s only flavored ice shavings in a wax-paper cone, [...]

Punkins, carved & ready to go

This is Halloween. Those Martha Stewart-ish creations that involve intricate carving and slicing are nice enough, but a regular old jack o’lantern has abundant charm. This trio looks like it was actually carved by children. Maybe pumpkin carving became an elaborate craft when parents decided that knives don’t belong in the hands of wee folk [...]

The fall colors are peaking right now, I heard on the news. Better run outside and enjoy them before it’s too late. Look where you’re walking, because after recent heavy rains, a lot of the leaves are already on the ground.

She’s gray and looks like a pen and ink drawing. This shouldn’t be an impediment to finding her. The sign tells us what we need to know: a friendly gray cat with green eyes and white face and paws has wandered off. And a piece of her left ear is gone. I think Millie’s had [...]

They are so darn cute, these small pumpkins. They will mostly be used as seasonal decoration rather than cooking ingredient, even though they are not difficult to cook. Cut pumpkin in half, scoop out the seeds, then toss it in the oven for 90 minutes or so. On the other hand, pumpkin in a can [...]

This picture was taken from the bus running nonstop from Jay Street to Church Avenue. The ride wasn’t too bad, except for delays caused by roadwork on the highway. After this weekend, the trains are supposed to run on a normal weekend schedule. The gray view included a gigantic cruise ship docked in Red Hook [...]

This guy is waiting for the bus. If he were trying to also look cool, he’d ditch the bag from Popeye’s.

How did this sign suffer a mishap, being off the ground and out of easy reach? It used to resemble a pizza, and may have had the word PIZZA printed on it for emphasis.

And his mama was a Mustang. Now he lives in New Jersey and rarely speaks to either of them.
