At a 5th Ave. pet shop
The old price on this cockatoo was $1,999. There’s something poignant about buying a pet, your future best friend, on sale, for who can put a price tag on love?
Before you dive in and buy a bird, you should know that cockatoos can live to be 65 years old and don’t talk as much, or as clearly, as some parrots. They also like to chew and explore their surroundings. In 50 years, this guy is still going to be walking around your house mumbling and clamping his beak on everything within reach.
I wonder if the bird is here legal or if it is one of those smuggled into this country? I would be reluctant to spend that much money on it until I found out where it came from. It is a nice looking photograph.
my Memories
I wrote in my Memories blog about the roads of my youth and how they were to travel in the winter time.
Adorable, but Abe’s reservations are usually right.
It is a nice looking pet. I can’t believe they live that long. I wonder how they act in their old age.
Oh, no, another thing to worry about – smuggled birds. Sounds like there’s reason to be suspicious, though. I like to look at birds – ordinary pigeons and seagulls especially.
