More fun with perspective, walking along the side of Leif Ericson Park between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. We can thank Robert Moses for the park and magnificent trees – the man who razed neighborhoods to build highways was also responsible for this kinder and gentler project. Built in the 1930’s, Leif Ericson Park was named in recognition of the numerous Scandinavians who then lived in the area.
Forgotten NY has an excellent page on Leif Ericson Park, a “green corridor” that stretches many blocks: http://www.forgotten-ny.com/STREET%20SCENES/lief/lief.html .
