They are probably tasty, but I’m not ready to shell out this much for tomatoes. I have real, non-vegetable, heirlooms that are not this valuable, per pound or otherwise.

Agreed…..$5 seems pretty steep to me also…
Well, at least the Heirloom Tomatoes are where they belong…

SO worth the price! Once you’ve tried tomatoes at the farmers’ market, you will never want to eat those tasteless ones available at the supermarket and grocery stores. I don’t mond paying a little more for something with better flavor and for little local producers. They will get my business every time.
What I’ll do is walk over to another table at the farmers market that has tomatoes for $3 a pound!
