There are many, many stores for rent in Borough Park. Some, like this donut/doughnut store stand out because of its quirky style. Mr. Donut favored the chocolate-frosted cake donuts; that’s about all I can tell. Oh, and there was Coke and coffee to wash the inner-tubes down, too.

What’s that? White bread; it’s everywhere. Pantry uses the word “large” instead of “white,” you’ll notice. Italian bread is white, too, and wheat bread, unless it says 100% – that’s partly white bread, also.

This small, unassuming shop on Atlantic Avenue, is producing world-class chocolates. Why didn’t anyone tell me? I had to walk by Nunu Chocolates, peer in, and think, That name sounds familiar. They also serve coffee, tea, beer, and wine to go with the chocolates. I’ll be back!

Get it while it lasts… if you like it. Panettone is like starter fruitcake: master this and you’re ready for the dense, American-style cake next. Both are around for the Christmas season; miss out and you have to wait until next year.

They call it an Italian restaurant, but the menu is heavy on the burritos and quesadillas. They’ll take any customers, I think. For reindeer, they’ve gone the non-Rudolph route. What do you think? Donner and Blitzen?

I volunteered for pumpkin pie. The secret is to follow the recipe on the side of the can of pumpkin. Big secret, but it works. If you had to go to one of those Thanksgiving dinners where fancy, non-traditional pies were served, do yourself a favor and bake a real one this weekend.

Hostess is going out of business and someone in my household (I’m not naming names) had the idea to get rich selling Twinkies on Ebay. All we could find in the stores were some orange cupcakes, though.
