New banners are so bright and hopeful, even when they are on a business that keeps irregular hours and it’s not clear what they do.

There’s a new deli on Church Avenue. What matters are the banners, which lend a festive feeling to about 20 feet of the block. The grand opening continues as long as the store decides, or until the banners decay and fall down.

Stores in Brooklyn, like this one, love the banners. There wasn’t a big sale going on; someone had an urge for a sidewalk display.

There’s likely a word to describe a moon that is 40% full, but I don’t know it. The sky and the banners were so interesting I forgot what was on the asphalt underneath; nothing interesting.

It’s not art, but a store that doesn’t care what you think of it. Those banners have been up for many seasons, seen a lot of weather. I like all the criss-crossing lines.
