look out

It’s a hole in the fence at Brooklyn Bridge Park, on the way to the foot bridge. The view is not pointing the usual way, toward Manhattan and the river, but to Brooklyn Heights.

We had weeks when it was below normal and now we are having some freaky warm days. It’s sort of nice, but it makes one suspicious, too. I, for one, am not ready to dress like it’s summer.

This is the Manhattan Bridge; I turned left at the water and walked toward the Brooklyn Bridge. The tall building is the new World Trade Center, with antenna on top. I didn’t linger in the park too long. To my surprise (not… not again!), the sun was setting early.

Two weeks ago the hurricane hit. Parts of Dumbo are fine; other places, windows are boarded up. Basements are still drying out and on some blocks piles of trash bags are 10 feet high.

Uneven pavement is not a biker’s favorite surface… but the views! That’s the pay-off. To the right is Brooklyn Bridge Park and more fabulous scenery and views of Manhattan.

An hour later it was pouring rain for twenty minutes; I didn’t think that was supposed to happen when the sunset was orange like this. It was still a spectacular day yesterday: cool with low humidity. That’s the Statue of Liberty to the left.

Tourists awkwardly take their own group pictures with the iphone. They don’t want to ask a stranger to assist and have unknown fingers touching the equipment.

Another section of park is open at Brooklyn Bridge Park. It was a splendid day for enjoying the views and green grass. More of the same is predicted tomorrow.

When I saw this sign I thought it was something new, then I noticed it was sponsored by the MEA, the Metropolitan Etiquette Authority. Even if they can’t give you a $50 ticket, think before you flick that butt!
