The cashier blamed the distributor for the switch to kosher donuts. Royal is in and Krispy Kreme is out at the On the Run convenience store. I’ll withhold my judgment until my taster gets to work, but these bad boys look more rugged than the Krispies.

Non-donuts @ 7th Avenue Donut Shop

I sat at the counter, had a cup of joe and a toasted muffin, and made a call while my feet warmed up. During that time, one piece of cheesecake left the case. Customers (@ 5:00 PM) were ordering up soup, dinners, sandwiches, and even pancakes. The diner does a lot of take-out; donuts are conveniently located by the front door.

Not enough rain doomed the little garden by the Bergen Street stop on the F and G Trains. We learned yesterday that corn syrup producers want their product to be known as corn sugar – fewer bad connotations. (Note the junk food franchise across the street.)

With a side of Dunkin’s. The smoothie/Middle Eastern sandwich place is closed for repairs or something. Long ago, Dee Dee, serving greasy doughnuts 24-hours a day, occupied this spot just downhill of Fifth Avenue and Ninth Street. Dunkin Donuts seemed positively upscale when it moved in.
