The area by the Ninth Street Bridge over the Gowanus Canal feels busy and industrial, and view from the Union Street Bridge further on is fairly pastoral. It’s what’s in-between that you have to worry about. A funky aroma hovers over the canal around Third Street. You won’t hold your breath and run up the street, but you will remember, in case you forgot, “Oh, that’s right, SUPERFUND!”

Venice is far away. Think of your carbon footprint and getting there! The dollar is weak. The Gowanus may not be clean, but no one’s drinking from the Venetian canals. And look, there are hardly any pigeons here and it’s not a bad view.

The driver and I smiled and nodded at each other and then he was gone, just like that. The car is for sale, though, if you’re interested. What kind of car is it? Seems to be turquoise and white, from the 1950’s, roomy; mileage isn’t great, but it runs.
