The nice restaurants outnumber the old joints on Smith Street and have for quite a while. Still, divisions persist: some know what “jeggings” are, but others never will.

Most of the Park Slope bodegas started stocking items like San Pellegrino when they realized that one expensive bottle of water costs as much as many Budweisers. The green bottles make a better window display, too. I’m happy when I can go into a corner store and buy whole wheat bread and plantain chips.
