I never noticed the graffiti on this building before. The landlord is taking the approach that it should be painted over ASAP. Some would say this makes a mess is bigger than ever, and some graffiti-ists would say thanks for creating a clean (or sort of clean) palette to work on.

The decorations on this fence wouldn’t be terribly interesting if it weren’t for the image of the woman. She’s painted on paper; part of what is compelling are the effects of the weather and age on the fragile material.

Our fancy superfunded canal has tributaries, which means more buildings and space for graffiti. On a gray day like today, the new work of Laozi stood out against the brick background. If snow happened, I didn’t see it.

These looked like two separate incidences of artistic expression to me. But I say, Robin, follow your heart; don’t stay thuggin’ because someone with a Sharpie thinks you should.

Or it could even be your grandmother.* How embarrassing! You should really have a talk with her about the high cost of defacing public property.
* The name Sally, sometimes a diminutive of Sarah, peaked in popularity in the US between 1940 and 1950. After that, its usage dropped dramatically; after 1970 almost no girls were named Sally.

A lot of rain recently has contributed to the lush, late-summer greenery. The graffiti-ed fence will remind you that you’re still in Brooklyn.
Graffiti letters are getting fatter

For a couple weeks, I’ve been paying attention, and my suspicion seems correct. Graffiti letters are getting bigger and rounder. The spraypaint art has been around long enough that it’s going through a retro-historical phase.

This storefront has a painting of a decorated chalkboard hanging in front. On top of that is some graffiti, which, though rather like writing with a Sharpie on a blackboard, gives the brick area some personality.
