Atlantic Antic has a bit of everything, and fewer socks and belts for sale than the average city street fair. The weather was overcast, but the event was well-attended. Kids had fun climbing the moai; I’d never seen that before.

The late afternoon sun bounces off the correctional facility and what might be the borough’s longest street name, when it’s hyphenated like that: Boerum Place – Brooklyn Bridge Boulevard.

What were they going to call the Nu Hotel, the Jailview? The presently unused Brooklyn jail is the main sight out the window, but you can twist your neck and see the hip destinations down Smith Street. Nu is the 13th Greek letter, and it also has many other meanings. It’s a Yiddish interjection equivalent to “so” or “well,” but I suspect the hotel was trying for a Kraftwerk kind of “new.” The hotel has gotten good reviews, except for travelers who would rather be in midtown Manhattan.

Back here it’s arid and desert-like, yet the small tree is receiving the attention is needs. It’s unclear what’s going on with the jail though. Are any prisoners here? Plans to turn the ground floor into shops seem to have been abandoned.
