Another sign for another day… and this doesn’t make that much sense – follow the arrow and park there, not here. The weathered paint looks good, anyway.

At the Navy Yard… paint on plywood. I like the old timey look, but my feeling is, if you can’t totally read the sign, you can decide whether to follow what it says, or not.

Last week the NY Times informed us that many cities worldwide take the position that the health benefits of riding a bicycle without a helmet outweigh not riding at all. Brooklyn and the rest of NYC fall into the category of “getting more bike-friendly” – it’s pretty safe now and getting better.
Open House at the Navy Yard

The Brooklyn Navy Yard was open to the public today as part of Open House NY. There were planned events as well as open artists’ studios. Every time I go the Navy Yard, which isn’t very often, it is more user-friendly. There are fences up around falling-down buildings and guards aren’t running around telling you not to go places. I’d advise you to visit before the place is totally spiffed up.

It’s remarkable that the door’s glass panes are mostly still intact. The Brooklyn Navy Yard is an enclosed and secured environment, though, free of bored kids with rocks.
Falling down @ Brooklyn Navy Yard

Went to an art show at the Brooklyn Navy Yard because I’d never been there before. It’s not open to the public, and the space is used for a variety of commercial purposes. (The Navy sold the land to NYC in the 1960’s.) The place is huge, and mostly deserted on a Sunday, but cars zipped around and security guards screamed at the art show visitors intrigued by a falling-down building: “Don’t stand too close! It’s dangerous!”
