late afternoon

The drizzle I could take. But when the wind started turning my umbrella inside-out and I was standing in the Lowe’s parking lot, that’s when I decided it was time to take cover then hurry home.

There’s a large dirt lot here ready to receive cars, but the painting of a flower on a plywood panel reminds me of the other meaning of park. Prospect Park is about a mile and a half away from this intersection. Serious park greenery awaits.

This is no ordinary driveway. Look at the painted lines to show parking spaces and wheels on the fence gate and the spare tire. What is going on is that house?

The Hamilton Avenue Bridge is under the elevated highway. A tug was pushing a load of metal scrap up the Gowanus Canal. In in picture, what I mostly notice are the grids and lines everywhere.

Exiting the Lowe’s lot onto Ninth Street, this is the view. I don’t know what the building and smokestack were part of, but they always capture my attention. In this light, the building looks rather barn-like.

Meant to get off the subway sooner. Didn’t realize it until I’d exited to the street, so I walked a few steps, to this parking lot, took a couple quick pictures, and got back on the subway. I like trees in snow; no sense wasting a photo moment because I was a little lost.

It’s another world on Coney Island Avenue. Many cultures are represented between Prospect Park and Coney Island. I found the purple brown color of this parking lot visually interesting, along with the sad trees, which will never thrive here, where almost everything is paved.

Look very closely and you’ll notice that there’s no longer a picnic table at the green patch at the base of the Lowe’s sign. That means we’ll have to nominate another unfortunate al fresco dining area as the worst picnic spot in Brooklyn. A picnic table, put there for dining purposes, is the only requirement of the competition.
