This maple leaf is just the beginning. In the city we don’t follow when the leaves are at their peak color. Late in October, the trees have leaves, then there’s a heavy rain and the trees are bare until spring.

The grass in Prospect Park needs a chance to grow before the ball players chew it up with their cleats. This year’s fence is more substantial than some we’ve seen, and the grass is off to a good start.

It was a lovely, muggy day at Owl’s Head Park in Bay Ridge. People were out, but the park wasn’t mobbed. This pine tree lost a big branch recently, probably during the big storm last month, but it didn’t topple.

Brooklyn Bridge Park is slowly taking shape. A new segment adjacent to Fulton Ferry Landing opened a week ago. Here, you can see what they are working on; eventually the park will stretch all the way down to the multi-storied rectangular building to the right of the picture.
