Here’s your appetizer. To get one for yourself at the New Floridian, go to Kings Plaza, then drive down Flatbush until you see a restaurant that doesn’t look like a diner, thanks to its modernized facade. Park the car (only a lunatic would take public transportation this far out); you have arrived! Enjoy.

They call it an Italian restaurant, but the menu is heavy on the burritos and quesadillas. They’ll take any customers, I think. For reindeer, they’ve gone the non-Rudolph route. What do you think? Donner and Blitzen?

I was drawn to Seersucker from across Smith Street by its neat and orderly front window, though it wasn’t clear what sort of business it was. My guess was plant boutique, then I saw the menus posted to the right. The restaurant, specializing in southern food, has been open about six weeks, and reviews have been mixed. The fried chicken and biscuits have fans, but the main complaints center around blandness, serving size, and price. For example: $12 glasses of wine and plain deviled eggs served three halves to a plate.
