Here’s your appetizer. To get one for yourself at the New Floridian, go to Kings Plaza, then drive down Flatbush until you see a restaurant that doesn’t look like a diner, thanks to its modernized facade. Park the car (only a lunatic would take public transportation this far out); you have arrived! Enjoy.

Reindeer on the door

They call it an Italian restaurant, but the menu is heavy on the burritos and quesadillas. They’ll take any customers, I think. For reindeer, they’ve gone the non-Rudolph route. What do you think? Donner and Blitzen?

The view and the reflections entranced me, so I forgot to look at the menu to see what kind of food they serve. The restaurant is near Bergen Street, if you want to go check it out.
Krabby View Restaurant

On the top level of Brooklyn Crab, you don’t notice the phone wires; all you see is the view. The food is nothing special, but the breeze is nice and the beer is cool. How did the Krusty Krab get an outpost in Red Hook? No matter; you’ll probably be back this summer.

There’s nothing wrong with a quiet restaurant, but there’s something reassuring about seeing patrons at a two or three tables.
What to call a burger joint

I find the name rather cutesy and confusing, since the burgers are not all made of beef, but since it opened a few days ago, people have been crowding Mooburger on Court Street. It’s organic and tastefully decorated, the anti-5 Guys.

Reviews of this Filipino restaurant are all over the place. The best option may be to try it out for yourself, though there is a very good chance the prices will shock, and you might want a piece of pizza for dessert because of the small portions.
Seersucker, in Carroll Gardens

I was drawn to Seersucker from across Smith Street by its neat and orderly front window, though it wasn’t clear what sort of business it was. My guess was plant boutique, then I saw the menus posted to the right. The restaurant, specializing in southern food, has been open about six weeks, and reviews have been mixed. The fried chicken and biscuits have fans, but the main complaints center around blandness, serving size, and price. For example: $12 glasses of wine and plain deviled eggs served three halves to a plate.
