Brighton Beach is the neighborhood just up the boardwalk from Coney Island. With a large Russian-speaking population, you’ll find stores, restaurants, and fashions that are different from other parts of NYC.

This maple leaf is just the beginning. In the city we don’t follow when the leaves are at their peak color. Late in October, the trees have leaves, then there’s a heavy rain and the trees are bare until spring.

The after-work drink scene is not what it once was. Now it’s smoothies and iced coffees, which means you can have them on the go. Summer is abruptly over, cooler and darker earlier, so wear a light jacket or cardigan while you’re not getting tipsy, and (memo to self) think about taking pictures earlier in the day.
Found: Old strawberry scent

Seen on the pavement. Discarded Little Trees often come in sets. There was a yellow one nearby, but it had white letters printed on a yellow background, so I couldn’t tell what its scent was, and I wasn’t going to get real close and read it.

If this were Park Slope, vigilante parents would have snatched the baby away to safety. The baby looks ready for a new activity, but that’s another issue.

The movie theater on Court Street is sending out cryptic messages again. Hmmmm… the R-rated teddy bear movie made $54 million last weekend and was number one at the box office, even though the critics were not so impressed.
