This tree is the runt on the block at the moment, but trying to catch up to the other trees. You can tell that the Gowanus Canal is nearby because there are not many plants growing on Third Street.

Seen in the street. Is it a coincidence that fresh (real) strawberries are in season at the stores? Of course not! The maple seeds are included for a natural touch.

This pine is next to Prospect Park’s horse ring, or what’s left of it. The fences are gone, but a dusty oval remains. Riders from the Caton stables still come here.

Plant four of these trees at the corners of a rectangle. Come back in twenty years, then place a foot locker at the head of the rectangle. About one time in ten, it is said, and always in the dark of night, the trees come alive, turn into an animal and run away, never to be see again.

The homeowners’ Christo-esque gift to the neighborhood:  a wrapped and string-tied object that suggests a tree. I’ll revisit the site in spring, see if anything is growing.
