This maple leaf is just the beginning. In the city we don’t follow when the leaves are at their peak color. Late in October, the trees have leaves, then there’s a heavy rain and the trees are bare until spring.

The sun is out at the moment, for the first time in a few days. Good news for those who bought cheap umbrellas like this, which work best in drizzle when there is no breeze, earlier in the week.

Evenings are cool now. You can still wear shorts, but the drop in temperatures causes steam to roll off the food carts after dark. The food may not taste better than usual, but it’s more photogenic.

Keep repeating, It’s always cooler at the shore, it’s always cooler at the shore… Our would-be heatwave seems to have passed. It’s supposed to be in the 80’s rather than the 90’s today, with less humidity. Fine with me.

I’m not counting the roses by the fountain. What we need are some colorful annuals. The grass is looking lush and green, after a few days of rain, in any case. I think a little patience is called for. We will see flowers eventually.

Yesterday was one of those days. It wasn’t cold, but the rain fell most of the day and the sun seemed to go down at about 3:00 PM.

Fourth Avenue is flat as a pancake and offers, at times, a hint of a big sky vista. Buildings used to all be low, but it’s still possible, on a day when the sky is bright blue and the clouds are fluffy, to stand in one place, look up and take in the wide-open view.

One more day of rain, they say, then fall arrives tomorrow. Put away the skimpy clothing and get out the sweaters. Thanksgiving is only a little more than five weeks away!

Wedding season is upon us. Go to the Botanic Garden and see for yourself; one reception after another is being celebrated. The rain came and went in waves today, but no matter. It’s supposed to be good luck for newly married.
