This pine is next to Prospect Park’s horse ring, or what’s left of it. The fences are gone, but a dusty oval remains. Riders from the Caton stables still come here.

Horses astutely read their riders and take advantage accordingly. Should you ever find yourself at the Caton stables, avoid this sturdy brown mount, because he would rather graze in Prospect Park than follow the other horses in a neat line.

Until its renovation is completed, the horse ring will be a muddy, fenceless oval. Horses are scarce, but hopeful dogs, encouraged by the remaining scents, cavort where they usually aren’t allowed.
