I like a Christmas tree so buried in decoration that you have to look to find the tree underneath. Tinsel is a little rare these days; maybe that’s why it seems kinda special.

The stuff at Beacon’s Closet is a little used, but mostly on the cool side, and who can argue with a pink plastic tree? The store has three locations: Park Slope, Williamsburg, and Manhattan. I like the one that’s convenient.

Re-gift, return, recycle, that’s what the 12th day of Christmas is about. Sing the carol again if you must, then throw away or stow away the tree if you haven’t already done so. This fractured cookie traveled through several states to get to New York. I’m trying to let it not go to waste, but adults found it too sweet, and many kids were turned off by the red hots.

The Christmas tree in front of Borough Hall is huge but not ginormous. Here in Brooklyn we don’t need a trillion twinkling lights. Cut-outs in the shape of stockings, stars, and moons are just right, a change from traditional ornaments, though I sincerely doubt whoever set up the tree was trying to reference Christmas’ origin as a pagan celebration.

When I walked past, I didn’t think the lights were turned on – this is a somewhat understated tree, despite the bows. The picket fence seemed a little suburban, but nearby is a Tom Otterness sculpture of a manhole alligator with its jaws wrapped around a smaller creature. We are in an alternate universe here in Metrotech.

Them (@ Rockefeller Center):  Immense scale, popular locally and known around the world, big crowds, Swarovski crystal on top, pushing & shoving, view of skating rink
