I like a Christmas tree so buried in decoration that you have to look to find the tree underneath. Tinsel is a little rare these days; maybe that’s why it seems kinda special.

Pink Christmas at Beacon’s Closet

The stuff at Beacon’s Closet is a little used, but mostly on the cool side, and who can argue with a pink plastic tree? The store has three locations: Park Slope, Williamsburg, and Manhattan. I like the one that’s convenient.
Borough Hall tree

The Christmas tree in front of Borough Hall is huge but not ginormous. Here in Brooklyn we don’t need a trillion twinkling lights. Cut-outs in the shape of stockings, stars, and moons are just right, a change from traditional ornaments, though I sincerely doubt whoever set up the tree was trying to reference Christmas’ origin as a pagan celebration.
Metrotech Christmas tree

When I walked past, I didn’t think the lights were turned on – this is a somewhat understated tree, despite the bows. The picket fence seemed a little suburban, but nearby is a Tom Otterness sculpture of a manhole alligator with its jaws wrapped around a smaller creature. We are in an alternate universe here in Metrotech.
The Court Street Xmas tree

Us: Simple and modest, tinsel snowflake on top, energy efficiency (no lights, as far as I can tell), no problem obtaining prime view
Them (@ Rockefeller Center): Immense scale, popular locally and known around the world, big crowds, Swarovski crystal on top, pushing & shoving, view of skating rink
