In lieu of a holiday motif, this store went with simple, colorful folded paper on a string. It looks nice, every bit as attention-getting as a Santa on a sleigh.

The nice restaurants outnumber the old joints on Smith Street and have for quite a while. Still, divisions persist: some know what “jeggings” are, but others never will.

The closed-down childcare center (or whatever it was) is directly across the street from the Cobble Hill movie theater. You can see theatrical scenes reflected on the upper floors. The chart is like the first day in (over) acting school, though a couple of the emotions, like “loved” and “proud,” are sort of difficult to capture in a still picture.

The coconuts look so authentic and natural. They are one of the few foods at the greengrocer that require tools to reach the edible parts. Use a screwdriver and a hammer, or throw the coconut down on the sidewalk as hard as you can and hope for the best.

As soon as this this guy was hitched to the parking meter, he couldn’t wait for his human to come back from the store. He made sure everyone could hear his feelings. Cute dog, though.

This police and fire call box has a lot of character. In other words, it’s ready for a winter coat of new paint. What’s most curious to me is the graffiti doodle on the side; rarely are the two combined.

Saturday before Black Friday – people were out strolling, shopping for essentials, and going out for lunch. Traffic in the stores was sparse, despite Christmas decorations. First, we have to get Thanksgiving over with, then we’ll consider the next holidays.
