Farmers markets have taken a turn for the earthy. They have lots of cabbages, carrots, hearty greens, and root vegetables like these. You may know the subtleties between turnips and rutabagas, but if you try to serve this to your family on consecutive nights, you may hear some complaints.

Yep, before the turkey was cold, the Christmas season had begun. As street decorations go, these on Court Street are pretty nice, brighter and crisper than many others.

I think there should be a lottery, with better odds, for people who would be happy with $10-15 million. $200 million is just extravagant. Life will always be about chance, though – take the lotto man. An actor with an everyman’s mug, he’s make a good and unlikely career out of saying, “And the winning lottery jackpot is now….”

The neon, like the decor of Yemen Cuisine, on Court Street near Atlantic Avenue, is about as simple as it comes. The only hint of personality comes from the two green words on the front window arching like a pair of eyebrows. There’s no French connection here, either; cuisine simply means food. On the menu are lamb prepared many ways, kidney bean dishes, some kebabs. A couple people on Menupages gave the food a positive review.

The past few years the businesses at 111 – 115 Court Street building, with the exception of Fresco Tortillas, have been turning over like pancakes. The building is set to undergo some, uh, procedures. Store are cleared out, as are rental units upstairs. I’m guessing gut reno, expensive coops or condos, but given the economy and current lack of demand for these, we may not see any finished work for a while.
