View from the subway… we’re getting close to last stop, Stillwell Avenue. There’s the Cyclone… if only some cars were whipping around a turn as we were going by, now that would really put me in the mood for Coney Island.

How easy it is to look calm and cool when you’re not sitting in a rickety old car on the Cyclone going a thousand mph downhill and holding on for dear life. That’s your next ride, and you need to be in the front, and don’t forget to keep your eyes open and hold your arms above your head.

The screams from the Cyclone riders are background noise when you’re out at Coney. Saturday the energy level was cranked up extra-high: first there was the Mermaid Parade in the afternoon, and in the evening the minor league baseball team, the Cyclones (the Mets’ “A” league team), had their first home game of the season.
