The tree’s trunk is as thick as a finger and it’s ten feet from a playground. NYC is trying to plant a million trees before 2017. We are rooting for this one in particular.

Playground trees have it rough, but this is the kind that comes back even after the bad kids break off the branches. This picture is from a gray and rainy day; today it’s scorching and bright. Someone is likely appreciating the small shadow of this tree.

There’s probably a for rent sign posted on this property out Dahill Road. It’s not easy turning gas stations into other kinds of business. It’s all about cars – fixing, leasing, and gassing them up – around here, anyway.
Really grassy grass

What is the truest expression of grass? A tufty, unruly rectangle or a perfectly mown front yard? The spring rain and city’s neglect caused this patch to go haywire. You could lose a soccer ball or a small child in there. It was to be an ephemeral pleasure, though; the city hacked the grass down to nothing just as it attained a resplendent shagginess.
