The behemoth now has a roof, some mirrored panels, and traffic all around. Don’t believe the NY Times, either. There isn’t NY Nets fever all around the borough.

The roof is on the Barclays Center, future home of Brooklyn’s professional basketball team. They are supposed to play next season… but in case you haven’t heard, there’s going to be a BIG parking problem. If you insist on driving, you are advised to find a parking space now.

Freddy’s, beloved dive bar of Prospect Heights, was displaced by the Atlantic Yards. Before the wrecking ball came, owners rescued the bar’s contents and brought them to the new location, on Fifth Avenue (bet. 17 & 18), in the old Ellis space. The new Freddy’s is full of character, a place for grown-ups to hang out, watch the game, and have a pint with a friend.

Ain’t no stopping, now – construction on the Barclays Center at the Atlantic Yards is underway. I wonder what percentage of the project’s cheerleaders regret their support, given the sad record of the NJ Nets.
