I like vowels

The letter E is popular because it’s a vowel. Still, there was no explanation why this letter was on the sidewalk outside a fast food place. It looks like the lowest bar of the E is contemplating a getaway, but for where?

It’s nice that the business has a U.N. flag decorating the small parking lot, but it does seem to be helping their popularity.

New banners are so bright and hopeful, even when they are on a business that keeps irregular hours and it’s not clear what they do.

The cars in line stretch for blocks, and no one can say when the gas might come in. Some stations don’t have enough electricity to pump the gas they have. Don’t call a car service; they are stuck, too. Our best hope right now is public transportation.

This laundromat is at street level but looks like someone’s dingy basement. Any moment, I expect someone wearing a housecoat or baggy boxer shorts to shuffle in and yell at me.

The ads up in the Burger King side windows were of happy people having a cookout. Then I looked in the front window and saw the paper crowns and a crisp reflection of the houses across the street. Not too many customers eating BK this afternoon.

NYC buses tend toward extremes: either fairly fast or slower than walking. This ride, a quick one, was curious for the one guy’s hair. I didn’t know people still put shapes on their scalps, other than at World Series time.

Out for a Sunday and ride and he’s got to check his email at the red light. If he weren’t preoccupied with the phone, he’d catch the dirty look on her face.
