She was en route to the Jazz Age Lawn Party, an annual event on Governors Island. Though the theme is everything 1920’s, it is loosely interpreted because none of the attendees was alive then. It was a chance to play dress-up in the summer: short, fringed dresses for the women and rolled-up khakis (?!) and caps for the guys.

If you like boat rides around and between the five boroughs, don’t take the ferry from Pier 6, Brooklyn to Governor’s Island. It takes about five minutes to get from one dock to the other. It’s nice, just over very quickly.

I was the last one to leave the ferry from Governors Island to Brooklyn. Somehow 83 degrees felt like 90+, and it looked shiny and monochromatic. The remedy going forward is garish clothing, cold water, and sunscreen.

Brooklyn looks low and humble from the ferry terminal at Governors Island. One Brooklyn Bridge Park, the behemoth gray industrial building turned condo, dominates the view (off-center, to the right). Eventually, a multi-acre park is supposed to cover the waterfront area between Brooklyn Bridge and these condos. It will be grand; but for now we have to exercise patience. Completion is years away.
