What were they going to call the Nu Hotel, the Jailview? The presently unused Brooklyn jail is the main sight out the window, but you can twist your neck and see the hip destinations down Smith Street. Nu is the 13th Greek letter, and it also has many other meanings. It’s a Yiddish interjection equivalent to “so” or “well,” but I suspect the hotel was trying for a Kraftwerk kind of “new.” The hotel has gotten good reviews, except for travelers who would rather be in midtown Manhattan.

Considering its size, Brooklyn has few hotels. Now, there’s a new Sheraton, with 300 rooms. On Duffield Street, it’s close to Metrotech, BAM, Junior’s, Fulton Mall, and Brooklyn Heights, but you may not want to walk around the neighborhood at night.
