And while you eat at Ikea Brooklyn, ask yourself, what happened? This used to be an okay place to shop. Yeah, it’s Ikea, and you know what you’re getting, but the store was a mess yesterday evening. Escalators didn’t work, merchandise was strewn around, or was battered or broken, displays were bare. Then there was the final insult: more than half an hour’s wait to pay for your crap! Ikea doesn’t know about the 10 or fewer concept, either! Or having a clean, non-smelly shuttle bus between the store and the subway! Oh, I could go on. And on, and on…

At Ikea Brooklyn, when you go up the escalator to the shopping floors, this is what greets you. In the past, couches were here, but people kept sitting on them, inserting themselves in the display. I’m sure guards have shooed away people who were sitting on the bed.

On the other side of the Ikea parking lot, before you hit the watery inlet , there’s a bike path and a landscaped area with benches. I don’t know who is responsible for the well-kept bit of nature, but it’s a surprise to see big, blue Ikea next to real trees and wooden benches.
