The rule, generally, in Brooklyn, is that it’s okay to bring babies and kids to bars, especially during the day, but dogs are not allowed unless you sit at a sidewalk table. The Department of Health may have a completely other set of rules on the topic.

Sometimes on a summer day, you need an air conditioned refuge with snacks and cold drinks. Union Hall is large enough to accommodate private parties, bands, two bocce courts, a library, couches, large crowds… everything but strollers. On Saturday everyone was having cool fun except for the couple who tried to come in wheeling a pair of babies. “Sorry,” said the bartender, “we have a policy… no strollers allowed.” (This is Park Slope, so tots in bars are okay.)
