With stoic resignation, the little guy grinds away on his little accordian. The deer, with its baby antlers, is less tortured by life in the cement front yard.

Deer in Sunset Park

This side yard has it both ways: it’s neat and tidy and packed with ornamentation. Halloween and Christmas are covered, then there’s the Americana, represented by the wagon wheel and the cement deer. Makes me wish there were more lawns in the County of Kings. It’s an open palette, waiting for folding chairs, croquet, and more animals, of course.
A deer, an owl, a chicken, & a flamingo

One of them is real. I’ll give you a hint: Winner, winner, chicken dinner! This menagerie is in Boerum Hill; I bet the neighbors are not too happy about the birds. (There’s another that’s visible here.)
Bucktoothed bunny

My theory is that this bucktoothed bunny is an ongoing joke among friends. Fueled by tequila, they take turns putting on each others’ front yards and laughing hysterically.

I was going to call her Little Bo Peep, but she isn’t carrying the requisite staff, so I’m not sure who she might be. With her left hand in a fist, she’s protecting the property. Plywood lawn ornaments are not too common; they definitely have more character than those made of plastic.

Who would suspect that a yard leprechaun was even familiar with Burt Reynolds’ Playgirl centerfold? The magazine is no longer around (though Burt is), but this little cement man with the fancy paint job should last for another century.
Robot lawn ornaments

Cast cement would be the perfect medium for these lawn ornaments, but they are still a nice decoration until the grass and flowers come in. I like the juxtaposition of the inanimate, man-made objects with the naturalness of the yard and flower bed. In person, the little robot looks more dog-like, as if it’s the pet of the big one.
What is the plural of crocus?

Signs of spring: those yellow, purple, and white flowers that start appearing in March … crocuses or croci, call them what you will. The cement bunnies had to endure the winter, but they look just right with the flowers.
