Large tabby, man of mystery, has gone missing. In fact, we don’t know its gender, but this cat looks male. Don’t know when, or where he disappeared, or if his name is silly or serious. Keep your eyes open.

Maybe it won’t help, but maybe it will. But when was the cat lost? Is the cat male or female? We want some background. What might this handsome not-too-skinny, not-too-fat creature be called? Is the owner worried we are going to misuse the information?

If I had my druthers, I’d rather see a picture of a cat rather than know its name; it seems more useful in looking for it. The traffic around the Transit Museum is worrisome . This sign won’t stay up long; the US Postal Service will have you know it’s a federal offense to affix anything to a mailbox, even when the subject is a missing feline.
