If I had my druthers, I’d rather see a picture of a cat rather than know its name; it seems more useful in looking for it. The traffic around the Transit Museum is worrisome . This sign won’t stay up long; the US Postal Service will have you know it’s a federal offense to affix anything to a mailbox, even when the subject is a missing feline.

FYI, the zip in zip code stands for Zoning Improvement Plan. In the early 1960’s, 5-digit zip codes were introduced by the US Post Office Department, but they were slow to catch on, so “Mr. Zip” was introduced. The wide-eyed, red-faced mail carrier was always in motion, carrying mail and reminding customers of what they needed to do to speed delivery of their letters. Zippy was phased out in the late 1970’s, though the USPS trots him out for an appearance now and then on the edge of stamps.
But what about these old mail chutes? Zip codes are not going to help much when your letter or bills are stuck between the 9th and 10th floors. You’d better take your items down to the lobby mailbox if you want them to get there.

It’s not supposed to be too bad. Snow, then some frozen rain. A good night to stay in, for sure.
