This is one of those huge grocery stores; Brooklyn has a few of them. What’s important in this picture are the pickles. This weekend is Memorial Day, so there’s going to be a mad rush on picnic supplies starting very soon. You’ve been warned.

In the mood for a 3-day weekend

That flag is really blocking the view out the bus, so it’s just as well there isn’t much to look at. We know the long weekend is coming up and don’t need the flag to remind us! By Monday, Memorial Day, we’ll feel a little patriotic.
Don’t feed the pigeons

The grocery store put up signs in English in Spanish, warnings against feeding the wildlife and threats of fines and punishment. Yet every day people toss bread on the sidewalk. What really drew me to this scene was the color of the sky, which turned gray-blue for a few minutes yesterday. A couple drops of rain fell and then the sun came out.
