The song kept playing, but there were no customers while the Softee truck gassed up. The driver had to get out because the gas tank is in a secret location in the back, by the rainbow sprinkles.

New Yorkers are always eating in public, which makes me happy because it’s often photogenic. Warm weather is the best because it involves ice cream, frozen treats, and silly, noisy vehicles that make children happy and drive adults buggy.

We know spring and warmer weather are officially here when found objects on the street come from the Mr. Softee truck. It’s a fact that few people like cakes cones for their flavor. They are a holder for soft serve ice cream, not really meant to be consumed.

These cartoon throwbacks, from Mr. Softee’s 1960’s archives, live on as stickers on the ice cream trucks. Safety doesn’t warrant a mention on the Mister Softee website. But you can learn about franchise opportunities! I’m thinking about food safety, too – what’s really in those cones?
