fireworks and trees

Last night, our group arrived at Prospect Park just as the fireworks were about to begin, at the stroke of midnight, so we ran into the closest entrance. Instead of being at the ideal viewing location, near Grand Army Plaza, we found ourselves on a hill near Third Street. Trees obstructed the view and gloved fingers prevented better photographs. The fireworks were nice, but the cold made a 15-minute display feel as long as the Macy’s 4th of July show.

Clown from 1950’s Coney Island bids adieu, along with the rest of us, to 2008. In 2009, minus Astroland, Coney Island is going to look like a whole different place.

But I don’t want to be a total downer. The start of a New Year is a always beautiful thing, full of promise. And I’ll admit, clowns give me the creeps. Happy New Year!
