A trip to the country fell through, so I went to the park in search of some nature. The lawns and playing fields are scorched, in need of rain, but the more woodsy areas are dense and thriving. It didn’t seem like Brooklyn behind Litchfield Villa, and might have felt like the middle of nowhere, if little voices from the 3rd Street Playground hadn’t been wafting uphill.

Don’t saunter up to the Van Leeuwen ice cream truck looking for ice cream on a stick; this is a high-class, high-fat frozen treat. Van Leeuwen is a small, local company with three trucks. They want to educate the consumer about their philosophy of simplicity and the specialness of their products. Still, a Froz-Fruit is better for your heart and more refreshing when it’s 95 degrees out.
