The bus is down there somewhere on Seventh Avenue. But before it shows up, a minivan or SUV will barrel down the street at high speed. Good news on this block, though: the donut shop across the street has an A rating hanging in the window. (Cross at the light and have a look.)

I wanted to reassure people that it’s possible to find cheap Chinese food from a respectable, Grade A, NYC Health Department-approved outlet. Now I have a new question – what is a boneless rib? Outside of the fastfood world, that is not possible, or desireable.

In lieu of a letter grade from the Department of Health, there’s a box of vinyl gloves in the window. A small crowd of people is waiting for take-out.

Restaurants and other places serving food are now required to post the Sanitary Inspection Grade they’ve been given by the Department of Health. When you see any grade at all, it’s an A. Hmmm … even some dubious-looking places have A’s up. (I’ve never eaten here; I use it to show what the Sanitary Inspection Grade sign looks like.)
