Where the overhang rungs out, I stopped because it was drizzling. The only other people at this end of the platform were a woman losing patience with her small daughter who didn’t want to wear a raincoat.

Looking outside through the grid of safety glass is like trying to impose order on the snowy mess. Right now, the weather is winning. If you don’t believe me, step outside; the snow’s almost a foot deep and still coming down. Kids in NYC are getting another rare snow day.

Cold and crisp at 5:00 PM. Regardless of what the signs state, the park was not closing at dusk. It was too fun being out in the first snow of the season and sledding in the near-dark.

It was also a night of questions:  what’s with this big snowstorm in December, and what am I doing on 18th Avenue, waiting for a bus? I don’t have answers. The snow was photogenic, though, and it wasn’t as cold as it looked from indoors.

And now this sidewalk creation is gone, wiped away by recent weather. The gray of the pavement matches the conditions outdoors. It’s another sodden day, good for staying in and reading or watching movies.

That’s where they are doing track work, on the subway bridge that crosses the Gowanus Canal and extends from Smith & 9th to Fourth Avenue on the F Train. An overcast day is great for taking pictures – no shadows or squinting. The haze has a way of making things either sharp or fuzzy. That’s my scientific explanation.
