The Barclays Center is taking shape, getting larger and more filled in. There are still many un-rented stores nearby, but you get the feeling it’s all going to start coming together in a few months.

One of them is real. I’ll give you a hint: Winner, winner, chicken dinner! This menagerie is in Boerum Hill; I bet the neighbors are not too happy about the birds. (There’s another that’s visible here.)

The giant stone blocks surrounding the little Times Plaza building have the feeling of a sea wall, but instead of water, it’s traffic all around. The transportation hub at Atlantic/Pacific Avenues, where subways and the LIRR come together, is a security testing ground. About once a week lately, there are SWAT teams, police K-9 units, and scads of regular cops standing around underground. Like these big blocks, their presence is not so much worrisome as curious.

Pacific Street, evening rush hour. The trains seem to be on some kind of slowdown this week. Every day it’s been waits, crowds, and impatient commuters.
