It was a nice day for a father-daughter walk on the avenue. Very warm again. No need for hats, gloves, or pants without holes in them.

All of a sudden it’s too cold for sidewalk dining. Shorts after dark are scant for many of us. The doors are flung open because the indoor temperature is about 90 from the tortillas on the flat-top grill.

They are still working out the police and fire call boxes at the corner of Smith and Bergen. The two call boxes that were here previously were removed, and this one was added. (Or could this one have the body of one of the old boxes and the head of the other?) The Frankenstein call box occupies the same space as the sidewalk corn and sunflowers from earlier this week.

Five months later, and look – they’ve taken away the newer call box. (It was where the orange cone sits.) I predicted that the old box would be the one to go, but there may be more to this story. Did the newer call box get whacked by a car?

This police and fire call box has a lot of character. In other words, it’s ready for a winter coat of new paint. What’s most curious to me is the graffiti doodle on the side; rarely are the two combined.

Everywhere I look:  red. This police and fire call box, covered in half an inch of bright paint, is outside B&N on Seventh Avenue.
