Wake me, I’m dreaming. The corner of Bergen and Smith has been transformed by this unusually configured sidewalk and the addition of another police and fire call box. The two of them draw attention away from nearby Domino’s and Dunkin Donuts, which is a healthy thing, but it likely won’t last. Let’s see how long it takes for the old fire call box to be removed.

This has to be one of the most banged up police and fire call boxes I’ve seen. It’s located on a quiet, semi-industrial corner near the Gowanus Canal and the Carroll Street bridge. You can see actually using it.

Compare and contrast two more old-style cast iron police and fire call boxes. What stands out is the torch on the one on the right. While it references fire, it’s completely decorative, like a miniature version of what the Statue of Liberty carries.
