You know it’s August when the black-eyed susans are blooming. They are the state flower of Maryland, FYI. NY’s flower? The rose. Beautiful, varied, thorny; that would be about right for our state.

The owl is real

And so are the branches, but the piney forest is a painting on the wall. The chances of seeing an owl in the wild are practically zero (and even less in Brooklyn), so this was an opportunity to observe a magnificent bird. The background was a little Twin Peaks, but I didn’t mind.
