I volunteered for pumpkin pie. The secret is to follow the recipe on the side of the can of pumpkin. Big secret, but it works. If you had to go to one of those Thanksgiving dinners where fancy, non-traditional pies were served, do yourself a favor and bake a real one this weekend.

The 502-lb. pumpkin is known around the city. Grown upstate, it was parked on McDonald Ave. to celebrate Halloween and astound sidewalk passers-by. What happens now that it’s November? Many, many pies?

They are so darn cute, these small pumpkins. They will mostly be used as seasonal decoration rather than cooking ingredient, even though they are not difficult to cook. Cut pumpkin in half, scoop out the seeds, then toss it in the oven for 90 minutes or so. On the other hand, pumpkin in a can in ready to go and makes a delicious pie, and the recipe is handily printed on the can’s label.
