Spring vacation is coming up, so the kids advise leaving the school bus where it is. Being New Yorkers, they learn early the value of a good parking spot. I don’t know if multiple meters have to be fed for an extra-long vehicle – there are special rules for school buses.

You’ve been on the road over an hour and you’re two miles from home. There’s still time to turn around and go home. Thanksgiving in Brooklyn is a lovely thing; I learned the hard way.

This isn’t some version of Lord of the Flies; it’s school buses about to leave the summer parking lot. Thursday is the first day of public school in New York City. Sorry, kids! Go do your summer homework packet and pretend like you’ve been working on it since the end of June.
