The food tastes better when the cook is wearing a white cap. The Souvlaki House, steps off the Fulton Mall, has the best gyros around (or so they say). Their other specialty is ke bobs, aka, grilled food on a skewer.

Sahara, on Coney Island Avenue, is a mega-restaurant. There’s seating for 600, but a line often spills out the front door. The menu is basic Mediterranean/ Middle Eastern, but they do a good job with the kebabs and hummus, and the atmosphere is friendly.
