Found some air conditioning on a hot day, then the hunger kicked in; needed a beer to wash it down, then stayed to watch the Mets lose. The Park Slope Ale House was a pleasant place to be – food and beer were good, and the sole stroller occupant was on good behavior. (Bob Ojeda’s doing the post-game on the TV.)

Most of the Park Slope bodegas started stocking items like San Pellegrino when they realized that one expensive bottle of water costs as much as many Budweisers. The green bottles make a better window display, too. I’m happy when I can go into a corner store and buy whole wheat bread and plantain chips.

NYC public schools let out for the summer at 11:30 AM yesterday. Have fun, kids, between now and Labor Day, read some books, remember the sunscreen, and don’t drive your parents and camp counselors crazy.
