Back here it’s arid and desert-like, yet the small tree is receiving the attention is needs. It’s unclear what’s going on with the jail though. Are any prisoners here? Plans to turn the ground floor into shops seem to have been abandoned.

Until the mid 1800’s, Manhattan residents relied on local springs for water. Today, there are three watersheds for NYC, Croton, Catskill, and Delaware. Giant tunnels connect 18 reservoirs to the city. A number of manholes in Boerum Hill have the Catskill name on them, suggesting a connection to that watershed.
