To see this sign is to think of Hubert Selby Jr.’s book, Last Exit to Brooklyn, if you’re familiar with it. Bursting with profanity, violence, prostitution, and sexual confusion, it caused an enormous stir when it was published in 1964. The 1989 movie was dark, but had some good performances and was quite watchable.

Today in Brooklyn:  gray, cloudy, periods of rain. Most of the traffic was coming in rather than leaving.

Witches and characters from Harry Potter, pay attention. The broom above is a curious, wispy, almost homemade-looking thing. Maybe that’s why it ended up on the sidewalk.

There’s only one correct answer here, otherwise you’re heading straight-on into traffic. NY drivers have enough problems (each other, potholes, rage, etc.) without malfunctioning traffic signs.

In some parts of the country, they call the line of asphalt placed in a road to slow down cars a hump. Today is Wednesday – just make it through this mid-week day. Don’t worry about being fined for honking. No one has received a ticket yet. The hump, though, is real, so you may want to ease up on the accelerator.
